Qi Wireless Charging

What is Qi Wireless Charging?

Qi wireless charging combines the benefits of both magnetic and resonant charging technologies in a versatile standard. Some Qi wireless charging transmitters use a multi-coil system, eliminating the need to align the device on the charging area. The, for now, quasi-standard for charging smartphones can provide 5-15 watts of power to small personal electronics. However, application solutions are growing and soon it can provide power for consumer devices, i.e. in kitchens. Devices, such as Laptops and tablet computers need 30 to 60 watts of power, WPC members are working to increase the power transfer and allow consumers to use the same technology to charge both their laptops and mobile phones.

Qi wireless charging is a standard created by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC).
